mgm west wing

Has anyone stayed in the West Wing of the mgm? I%26#39;m staying there for my first trip and I know how awful everyone says the emerald tower was--and I%26#39;m pretty sure the West Wing is just the rehabbed emerald tower... I want to know if i should switch??

Cat - I haven%26#39;t stayed in the West Wing, but was considering it for our next trip. After reading some trip reports though, I%26#39;m not so sure. From what I hear the room itself is nice (newly rehabbed) but very very small, especially the bathroom. Someone mentioned that the sink was actually right as you walk in the door! I for one am easily claustrophobic, so that%26#39;s my hesitation. If the size of the room doesn%26#39;t matter for you though (if new/clean takes priority) then it may be a godo choice for you. Just do a search on ';west wing'; on this forum and see what comes up! :)

Yeah, ';switch'; to Monte Carlo.

Is the Monte Carlo better? I thought of staying there...i%26#39;m clueless!

If at all possible change your reservation to the Aladdin. I just stayed there last week and the room was huge and very nice with a bathroom the size of a small guestroom. Double vanity with all the fancy goodies, a huge soaking tub and a seperate shower. Also the comode is in its own little doored room. If you can score it get a room facing the Belagio for the fountain show. The beds are good too but I frankly didnt sleep much.

Thanks Matt...I%26#39;ll look into it...glad you had that good of a time :) I%26#39;m so excited!

Cat...

Do not stay in the Emerald Tower at MGM! We%26#39;ve stayed at MGM over 7 times, and trust me, the room is a great rate but very, very tiny. It is also at the other side of the hotel, and a super long walk to get to. Unless you do not plan to spend much time in your room, then it shouldn%26#39;t matter. MGM is a fabulous hotel though, but upgrade to the Grand Tower where the rooms are better.

Honestly, all of the ';megaresorts'; are beautiful in their own way. It just depends on what is most important to you. Base your decision on what you plan to do...lots of sight seeing (location), good restaraunts (buffets), or shopping, shows, entertainment, gambling (casinos), etc. Each hotel has something different to offer.

Bellagio is more expensive, but in the center of the strip. Mandalay Bay is at the end of the strip, but so is MGM. You may need to take monorails to get back and forth. Venetian and The Wynn are at the ';other'; end of the strip.

This is why we rent a car a few days, so we can stay anywhere on the strip, and travel more easily. We definitely walk to sight see, but in the July heat, and with a large crowd, traveling by car is usually an option for a day or two for us.

Curious Cat,

I am ALSO booked at the West Wing!!! I wish I would have read these reviews before booking. I am getting some iofo about upgrading the room...I just don%26#39;t know if I do it now or when I check in. I%26#39;m afraid I won%26#39;t be able to switch and we%26#39;ll be stuck in the West Wing :(

Are you booked already as well?

We stayed there last year and were supposed to have a room in the Emerald Tower/West Wing. Here%26#39;s a tip, check in at the airport and politely ask for an upgrade to the Grand Tower.

I%26#39;m already booked...I didnt even choose it because it was cheaper...I just thought the room looked modern...I hate dingy hotel rooms. But looks like I should consider getting a room in the grand tower...its the same price anyway. Who knows?? Maybe I%26#39;ll luck out and get upgraded...yea right. Thanks for all the posts!!!

Again, if you are worried...you may want to call reservations ahead of time and change your reservation. They will change your room type, at no extra charge if the room cost is the same.

Good luck
