Inexpensive outside Vegas excursions-Laughlin?

Is there any reason to go to Laughlin? Is it just another place to gamble or is there more? On the off chance that the n00bs in our group want to get off the strip we%26#39;re checking into some alternate activities, but money is an obstacle. Since we have free vouchers to Laughlin I thought I%26#39;d ask about that particularly.

If you have a car, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, and Hoover Dam are all easy 1/2-day excursions.

I%26#39;ve been to Laughlin and I enjoyed it but keep in mind that it is the AARP capital of Nevada. The action is slow and it is an all day excursuion. However, you are right on the river and you can take advantage of all the water activivties while you are there.

I wasn%26#39;t very impressed with Laughlin. I%26#39;m glad I went to see what it was all about, but I would never go back. The best part IMO was the location, right on the Colorado River....beautiful.

I only went in about 3 of the casinos, but I found them small, and the slots were tight. The Colorado Belle in particular was VERY cramped....slots were so close you could barely move!

Overall, I was just very disappointed and didn%26#39;t feel it was worth the drive, but if you have vouchers and have never been, why not give it a shot. You might like it, who knows.

Good Luck!!

Laughlin is a nice place for low key gambling and really good water activities on the Colorado River. It also is the CHEAPEST place to stay in probably all of Nevada in nice hotel/casinos. The Golden Nugget, Flamingo and Harrah%26#39;s are all solid 3 star hotels and usually cost around $29/nt Sun-Thur and $49 on the weekends. There are a lot of RV folks there, but it is not all blue hairs. The trip down to Laughlin will give you some nice desert scenery. Stop at Hoover Dam on the way. Also, a cool side trip is thru Oatman, AZ. on Old Route 66 to Kingman, AZ. Oatman is a REAL old west town with burros running around. You probably don%26#39;t get to see that in Pa.

Steve, if hollemom has free vouchers, it must mean for a bus tour which would not allow her the stop options you suggest. The tour I took in April went over the dam, but it was a diversion from the usual route due to road work closing a Laughlin highway. We enjoyed the scenery and the bus driver was rather entertaining and informative. He also showed some movies to help pass the time. The free trip included a free buffet at the Edgewater which was quite good. We only went into the Edgewater and the Flamingo (where I hit a $500 pot on a 50 cent machine). We enjoyed walking along the river which is quite beautiful at this point. If you have several days planned for your Vegas trip, it is a nice way to break up the time.

If you like water and water sports, I recommend you to go to Laughlin. We go to Laughlin every year for Labor Day weekend and take along my brother%26#39;s sea doo jet ski. This makes my trip in Laughlin because the Colorodo River is AWESOME. Jet Skiing is a BLAST. You should try it. P.S. Try the Sunday Brunch @ the GN. This place rocks.

If you click on the ';Getaways%26#39; tab at the top of the page they have a little description of Laughlin
