Drive to LV from San Diego

My fiance and some friends and I are driving to LV from San Diego in about a week (!). Anyone know how long this generally takes, if there are roads to avoid, and if leaving at around 5 pm from SD is a HUGE mistake because of traffic? I guess we don%26#39;t really have a choice, but I%26#39;d like to know if I should bring along a pillow (since I won%26#39;t be driving).

Drive to LV from San Diego

It looks like it%26#39;s I-15 most of the way, so, if I remember my California days, you%26#39;re stuck in traffic!!!

It%26#39;s about 350 miles, or 5 hours. Check mapquest.com.

Good travels...

Drive to LV from San Diego

If you are leaving on a Friday night at 5pm, you are looking at a LONG drive....bring a pillow.

Luckily it%26#39;s a Tuesday night, not a Friday. It%26#39;ll be neat getting to LV when it%26#39;s dark out though...I%26#39;ve never been before and am VERY excited to see the lights!

On a Tuesday night once you get past San Bernardino it will be pretty smooth sailing, I mean driving. Friday night I%26#39;m going from LV to Oceanside, I expect it to take me 5 hours or so.

5pm is a big mistake, wait until at least 7, whether you go I5 or I15 they are terrible at rush hour. There is no rush, vegas will be rocking whenver you get there so avoid the rush hour traffic and leave later

We are driving from San Diego to Las Vegas next Friday (27th). As it%26#39;s a holiday weekend and a Friday we are thinking of leaving San Diego between 9 %26amp; 10am. Would this be the best idea?

You will be against traffic so 9am will be the best bet, don%26#39;t push it much after 10am, you will want to be clear of the la basin (rancho cucamonga area) by 12 noon at the latest.

Longboard:

You said : ';5pm is a big mistake, wait until at least 7, whether you go I5 or I15 they are terrible at rush hour. There is no rush, vegas will be rocking whenver you get there so avoid the rush hour traffic and leave later';

If we do leave at 7, how long to you expect the drive to take? How late can we check into our hotel (Mirage), or does it not matter (as long as we notify the hotel, or do we even have to do that at all)? I don%26#39;t want to get there TOO late.

Pierce,

As long as your first night is already paid for on your credit card, they have to keep a room for you. Call them if it makes you feel better.

I normally like to take the 215 through Riverside as opposed to the 15 through the Lake Elsinore area. They are doing construction on the 215 right now. So, AVOID it at all costs. It took us an extra half hour Friday night with the detours and bad roads. And there was no trqaffic at the time. Stay on the 15 all the way to Vegas and avoid the temptation to spand your money at the Native American casinos on your way over.
