George Wallace or Second City?

Will be staying at the Flamingo and our package includes 2 for 1 tix to George Wallace or Second City. Which is the better show and has the better theater? We are more into sitting at a table w/drinks than in theater seating. Thanks.

George Wallace or Second City?

George Wallace...he is hilarious! The theater is a ';table seated'; venue, and is small, but not bad. He is so worth the free ticket...he will even give out an autographed tshirt after the show to everyone!

George Wallace or Second City?

I have not seen George Wallace. I have seen second city at least six times, and last year I would have told you how funny it was. My daughter and I went in January, she just loves the show and we were so disappointed! They got a whole new cast and they are NOT FUNNY. It made us sad, since this has been our vegas ritual for four years, and my husband and I before that to go see the show.

advice on 3 hotels

hi, coming to vegas on 14 june for 9 days. we want to have a good lookaround so we have booked 2 hotels. we have booked 3 nights mirage and 3 nights in golden nugget. we now are thinkin of staying in the wynn for the last 3 nights. any comments .

advice on 3 hotels

Nice line-up if you ask me!

My only quibble is that there%26#39;s not much of a swimming pool at the Nugget. Two nights there would be plenty of time to see the downtown sights.

advice on 3 hotels

cheers drake

taking 8000 dollars and i aint bothered if i come back home with 000. gonna party til i drop.

taking 8000 dollars and i aint bothered if i come back home with 000. gonna party til i drop.

LOL... that attitude will make you a very popular fellow in Las Vegas???especially if you visit the girls at Glitter Gulch across the street from the Nugget!

Enjoy!

Toffo,

Wife and I will be in Vegas on the 19th of June. Going out for her 40th b-day. Hope you have a great time. Sounds like you have the hotels lined up. We are staying at the MC. Going to down some beers at the brewery.

hi drake wat is glitter glutch. im up for a fun time so lets hope its a crazy place.

jc raider hope u have a fun time. ill see u in the bar.

only thing i would say is Wynn is very close to Mirage, if you do want to stay at another hotel then maybe further south on the strip (but I guess the whole point is the fact that the Wynn is the newest).

The first one is on me.

  • Trip Report!! 5/7-5/14, pretty d*rn long...

I think I must have gone through some type of grieving process after leaving Vegas... I%26#39;m still a little weepy, so pardon the tears.

Flew in on Independence, no problems (getting there at any rate). Picked up my temporary rental (Long story) and went straight to The Orleans to bet on a couple horses. Thought that Giacamo horse had a dumb name and proceeded to lose $40, betting on his competitors.

    HOTEL- #1

Okay, stayed one night at the El Cortez. Not the worst hotel, actually the room was good. (clean, nicely decorated) The casino had a certain edginess that was a bit of a turn-off. (Not so clean, not so nice, clientele a little rough.)

Left the El for an In-N-Out Burger... I have to say, one of the better meals I had this trip, but not in a bad way. Good burger, superb fries. And then I was off to pick up my rental for the rest of the week.

Hmmm, don%26#39;t want this to continue as a blow by blow.... Saw one of those in the parking garage...

    ENTERTAINMENT

MYSTERE, fantastic of course, thank you all so much for the intel to be a little early. I would have been the one in the spotlight! Marvelous staging (and not to detract from the rest of the show, but the actual hydraulics and movement of the stage was as hypnotic as the performances!) and the baby was a trip! From one act to the next it was almost perfectly seamless. Done much too quickly, and we kind of sat there at the end thinking it couldn%26#39;t possibly be over.

LEGENDS, this was last minute, but still kinda fun. Grabbed the coupons and saw an entertaining show with an Elvis impersonator that made me think I might like Elvis afterall.

FOUNTAINS, well, this is where the redneck in me came out. If I%26#39;d had a lawnchair, I would have planted it right out front and stayed there everyday %26#39;til they played the ';Star Spangled Banner';.

TITANIC EXHIBIT, ummm, I hesitate to put this under entertainment. There was china from 1st, 2nd, 3rd class... and a giant chunk of the ship. Don%26#39;t get the audio if you go. (It%26#39;s deep, deep, deep in the bowels of the Tropicana. I guess they want to make you feel as if you really have discovered the long lost ship.) P.S. Trop kinda scared me.

HOOVER DAM and VALLEY OF FIRE, again, super thanks to this forum on the Valley of Fire, BEAUTIFUL! We picked up sandwiches at Capriotti%26#39;s (Yummm!!!) and picnic-ed like kids. The weather had been above par all week, and was no exception this day. Take plenty of water and choose your stops carefully so you don%26#39;t get burnout before you%26#39;re halfway through it.

I was forced to travel to the Hoover Dam. It is a fine example of the marvels of modern engineering.

Oh, and I learned that there were high levels of calcium in the Colorado River and Lake Mead. This causes unusually high occurences of kidneystones in Las Vegas citizens. Don%26#39;t drink the water! (Er, drink bottled water?)

FREMONT EXPERIENCE, I really wish I had spent more time in the downtown casinos losing my money, but there were a couple good bands out there and the light show was quite a sight. The wind was a little too brisk, and we got cold, (Literally. I caught a cold!) and left to get some food.

P.S., had to hunt down the Nuggets at the GOLDEN NUGGET, ask at the desk! I think it was past the elevators and around the corner?

THE STRIP, I knew I was going to fall in love with the spectacle of it all, and I was right. When I wasn%26#39;t complaining about my feet (Only eight blisters, and they%26#39;re all healing nicely, thank you) I was in awe of the sheer size and scale. (I told you I might get weepy, hold on... I need a tissue **blewww**, thanks.)

I was booked into The Barbary for the bulk of my trip. It get%26#39;s an ';A'; for location, and would definitely be suitable for a last minute stay. I%26#39;m thinking of expanding my budget for better digs next time. Room was clean, bed was wierd, squishy mattress on a box. Hey, who goes to Vegas and spends time in their room?

I got to drop a friend from an airplane on Wednesday. That was cool. Don%26#39;t worry, he was attached to another guy and they both made it to the ground safely. I don%26#39;t remember the company%26#39;s name, but they do run out of the Boulder City airport. (They probably all do...)

    FOOD

I had very little good food, but found I was too excited to eat most of the time.

PEPPERMILL, hello, welcome to the grease capital of the world! Oh wait, wasn%26#39;t that the VICTORIAN ROOM at the Barbary? Let%26#39;s hope you%26#39;ve got a stomach seasoned like a cast iron skillet for either of these places. (In the Peppermill%26#39;s defense, it is written up for breakfast and we were there for dinnerish.)

BELLAGIO BUFFET, yes, God does come to Las Vegas, and this is where he eats His buffet! Hit the lunch line, not too bad, food was incredible! And they do this everyday? For a little less than $20, plus tip, this place is a freakin%26#39; steal!

HARRAH%26#39;S, ew. Who ever heard of cold crab legs? And don%26#39;t you need hot butter to go with them? A bit below Golden Corral, if we%26#39;re using that as a barometer.

RIO INTERNATIONAL BUFFET, I can%26#39;t bash Rio, they let me win $2500 on one of their slots. The food had some high points, but again, I didn%26#39;t feel much like eating.

BATTISTA%26#39;S, I should have known when the waiter plunked down two bottles of ';complimentary house wine';, that the food would be less then stellar. I think another reviewer called it bland. Unfortunately, I didn%26#39;t read that review until AFTER I got back.

GAYLORDS, this is a wonderful Indian restaurant in the Rio, nice setting, excellent food, and we had a really sweet waitress. Can%26#39;t tell you how much I love the Rio!

PARIS BUFFET (BREAKFAST), wow, what a spread! And cheese, too! What a fantastic selection of fruits and sausages and breads and sausages, and eggs and sausages, you get the idea. Came to the conclusion that no one in their right mind can eat that much food for breakfast, but at around $14 bucks you can certainly try. Quality, not just quantity!

I loved my trip! I loved the fun little theme slots and Bailey%26#39;s and coffee at 1am! I loved driving around Vegas! Except on Friday and Saturday nights. I loved the escalators out on the street ! (You have to know this was a huge novelty to me!) I loved seeing people tumble out of a taxi at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, and knowing they had yet to go to bed!

I miss Vegas already, and I will be back!! ***tears***muffled weeping***

    Thank you! **sob**

Trip Report!! 5/7-5/14, pretty d*rn long...

Glad you enjoyed it... I%26#39;ll be there in a week and after 4 years of Blacksburg food (Go Virginia Tech Hokies), I can certainly get some quality food!

Trip Report!! 5/7-5/14, pretty d*rn long...

I loved your report -- glad you had fun! you really know how to write! :) I can%26#39;t wait for my trip (only 3 months to go). Am anxious to try the Bellagio Buffet.

Loved your report! You made it entertaining and very easy to read (thank you!)

Nice...won some $? That always helps make the trip that much more special!

Terrific report. I%26#39;m glad you had such a good time ($2500! Killer win!) and that you took the time to share it with us.

    hi krisabella,

that was wonderful reading, enjoyed it tremendously. hope my trip is half as good. UKTRIPPER.

Great trip report Kris. Vegas has something for everyone I think. It would be very difficult to have a bad time there, if you don%26#39;t like one thing you just move on to the next. No way to see it all in one trip, gotta go back!

I also have to say I loved the way you wrote your report, very enjoyable and informative.

Great report. Am going Oct 21, for a week. You have some good suggestions for things to do. Thanks again.

I also loved your report, informational and entertaining...thanks!!

    ;-) Claudia

ps...I have to try the Bailey%26#39;s and coffee thing

Kris, good report...it made me a lil misty too..thinking about my trip a few weeks ago....I am holding my breath. until my next trip in the middle of July....lol

    Trip Report - 5/12 - 5/16

We just got back from Vegas late Monday and boy, what a ride! We stayed at the Luxor Hotel and it was great; the West Tower rooms are every bit as nice as people say they are. We had a ton of room to tool around in even though the bathroom was a tad on the small side. The standalone shower was huge, and the water pressure was the best I%26#39;ve ever had at a hotel. It did take a while for the shower to drain, however, so if you planned on being in there a while you%26#39;d end up standing in a couple inches of water. No big deal though, my shower at home does the same thing. The bed was very comfortable and we got plenty of pillows. Upon arrival, we even got a little freebee from the hotel - they sent us about 200 bucks of food by accident. Apparently it was supposed to go to another family who%26#39;s last name was one letter off of my boyfriend%26#39;s (I%26#39;d ordered him champange and strawberries as a surprise so that%26#39;s why we got anything in the first place.) We let them know their mistake and not only did they promptly send up what I had pre-ordered the week before, but they let us keep the other food! Great customer service. The pool area was big, very very good for sunbathing but not very much shade. I loved the pools but the cabanas looked run down. We ordered room service and it was okay - I got a great shrimp cocktail with huge shrimp but my boyfriend got a four cheese pizza which ended up making him sick. We ate at the Sacred Sea Room - wonderful wonderful food and atmosphere. We also ate at PF Changs which was okay. Gambling was a ton of fun, the casino%26#39;s slots treated me very nice (I love those Frog Prince ones!) and my boyfriend had a ton of fun playing Let It Ride poker at the Tropicana. We both got royally dusted downtown at the 4-Queens however; the table games down there did nothing but take all our money and it wasn%26#39;t even fun losing it. I did all the Vegasy things - took a couple pictures with the hunky gladiators outside of Caesars, saw the lions at MGM and went to the top of the Stratosphere. All in all, I can%26#39;t wait to go again - I%26#39;m now planning my August trip with my best friend!

    Trip Report - 5/12 - 5/16

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a lot of fun, makes me want to go again too!

    Trip Report - 5/12 - 5/16

Thanks so much for the report!

sounds like fun..wow you scored on the room service thing..lol I love those frog machines also...o.k, I love all of the machines...I%26#39;ll be going again in July and Sept...can%26#39;t wait..

    Vegas To Grand Canyon 1day

My wife and I are coming to Vegas in June and we wanna go see the Grand Canyon now I know they say its a long drive for one day but it can be done! Is there anyone out there that has done it and how did you find it? Also I know there is a shorter way to get to a different area of the Canyon that takes about

2-3 hours from Vegas. Me and a friend did it in 1999 it was a dirt road. Does anyone know if its still there and if its safe?

    Vegas To Grand Canyon 1day

Dirt road - mid June - 110+ degree temps, sounds like a trip I want to sign up for! Your friend may have made it to a western vein of the canyon, but your friend didn%26#39;t make it to the main canyon area in 2 or 3 hours....

Can a roundtrip drive to the canyon take place in one day - as long as you are planning for a very long day... Depending on traffic, it will be 5-6 hours each way, then the time you want to spend viewing...

Have you considered a flight or helicopter trip?

    Vegas To Grand Canyon 1day

we did a coach trip to the canyon but happy to tell you about it the driver made a short cut at the joshua trees along a dirt road made it in good time had plenty of time there had a meal with the indians and went to several great view points comeing back along the short cut the driver smashed his water hose under the engine and we got stuck in a little village for several hours this is a local coach driver that knows his way around so you would proberly take a lot longer to get there i have done the helicopter to the grand canyon as well and it is something else i will always have great memorys of that flight it was the best money i have ever spent flying over hover dam valley of fire lake mead over old volcano creators on onto the canyon if you can afford to do it without a shadow of a dought do the helicopter tour you wont regret it.

the coach trip might be good for you if you would rather travel by road would be more relaxing rather then do all that driveing

Hey Vegas I see what you mean! I know its a long drive but from what I have read the bus tours all do it in about 12 hours there and back so if they can do it I am sure a car can do it just as fast if not faster!

And the place that Andrew is talking about is what I was thinking the one that goes past the Joshua Tree Forest! Does anyone have info on that?

My guess is that the one-day bus tours have two drivers. I can%26#39;t imagine that one bus driver can legally drive 12-14 hours in a 24-hour period.

I drove to and from Zion Canyon on a one-day trip, and that was about 8 hours of driving. After that, I wouldn%26#39;t even entertain the thought of 11-12 hours to GC and back. If you do it, leave Vegas at the crack of dawn so that your entire drive will be in daylight. Good luck and have fun!

The drive thru the Joshua trees is to the West Rim, which includes the rutty dirt road. When you get to the canyon area itself, you have to pay to take a bus ride or helicopter to see ANYTHING because this is on Indian land. This drive can be done in a day, BUT 4 wheel drive SUV is highly recommended and do not do it if muddy. Forget driving to South Rim. That%26#39;s TWO long days.

js2528: My wife and I just made the trip a couple of weeks ago to the South rim. It took us about 4 hours and 45 minutes going out with a short stop at Hoover Dam. The drive back was about 3 hours 45 minutes, but I also was driving well about the speed limit most of the way through Arizona. I debated making the drive at first but I%26#39;m glad I did.

Buck.. thanks for that info that is what I was thinking. I drive a bus for a living so 8-10 hours of it is nothing for me. We will definitly be doing that trip.

A few years back (maybe %26#39;01), I did the west rim trial in a large SUV. It was $200 a person, plus tip and it was a LONG day. We sat in the back of the SUV (there were 6 people and the guide) and found the experience to be very BUMPY. Add to the fact you%26#39;re in the SUV for 12-14 hours- not good times. My back ached for days and for the amount of time you actually get to see the canyon- it wasn%26#39;t worth it. Glad I did it, but I%26#39;d never try that route again.

Two years ago my family and i went to the canyon in one day. It ws a great trip and I loved the canyon but travelling there and back from vegas in one day is very tiring. I would do the helicopter trip....it would obivously be much faster and you could spend more time at the canyon. It felt like we were rushed and didn%26#39;t get to stay as long as we wanted. I would do a helicopter tour or use two days.

Just got back a couple of weeks ago and made the GC trip to the south rim...We had a rental car and left about 11:00 and got there about 3:00 stopping for gas and snacks along the way.. as we were leaving the sun was going down while we had dinner. I was worth the trip...got back after midnight and glad we did it but if i had the money i would do the heli trip...It was a long day...but we were there for a week and had the day to spare.

What does it take to be considered a HIGH ROLLER?

My friend said he went to Las Vegas for the 2nd time and had a free suitre at the Treasure Island by putting about 10 grand in an account and gambled there a fair amount but not that much.

any comment or advice or experience regarding this would be appreciated.

What does it take to be considered a HIGH ROLLER?

There are whales who clearly ';have it';. there are high rollers who visit often with $1000 chips. and then there are a many who bet enough to get free rooms.

High rollers generally are well beyond normal players.

I don%26#39;t think depositing $10,000 in an account one time will give you roller status. And don%26#39;t be surprised if the casino does know your life history before calling you a high roller.

What does it take to be considered a HIGH ROLLER?

Credit line of $200,000 or more. Willingness to play hour upon hour of $500 a hand 21, Craps or Baccarat. That is in my mind a true High Roller.

Geez, maybe tims42 with his penney and nichel machine bets has the right idea after all!!!

If you have to ask...... ;)

    Darn it.

Quit posting pictures of your younger sister.

A ';whale'; maybe up to 200K or more, but they didn%26#39;t make that kind of money by being stupid. Or they inherited it.

They, of course, can afford to lose it.

The casinos make 99% of their money on people that gamble 2 or 3K on craps and slots and BJ.

    Most generally, less.

    Hey, just kiddin...

Read a book by Steve Cyr (Whale hunt in the desert) if you want to get an insight into the makeup of a %26#39;High Roller.

Basically you wouldn%26#39;t be classed as one unless u deposited around $200k and bet $1k a hand upwards, although this is loose change for some.

At Bellagio I was told to get %26#39;rated%26#39; (minor comps, meals etc) I would need to play $25 a hand for 4 hours a day (minimum).

By the way, the book is a good read.

Just got my annual report from Ceasars yesterday. Revenue breaks down as follows:

    Slots=47%

    Baccarat=3%

    Tables=185

    Rooms=13%

    Food and Beverage=11%

    Other=8%

Of the 4 plus billin dollars in revenue (wworldwide) they generated, 622 million fell to the botton line.

Seadog wasnt asking about how to be a ';whale';, which you obviously cant ';become'; one by trying to woo or trick the casino. However since the question was about ';high roller';...i guess it depends on the definition. Obviously the monkeys posting replies here have never brought that kind of dough to a casino.

Let me tell you, it takes much less than you think. If you bring 10 grand or so, they will pounce on you to get you to play with it, and hopefully you will leave without it.

IMHO, its WHERE you play that will get their attention. What casino are we talking about? Bellagio, forget it. Aladdin? Perhaps its easier there. ALWAYS go play in the high limit area. Those places are daggone intimidating to walk into, mostly because they are empty, except for the pack of asians in the corner shouting ';monkey!'; (baccarat expression) So, the hosts working that area have no one else to go for, and you are the target. Pull a couple of grand in chips and start playing, and if you get up a couple hundred, look bored and get up to leave. Prepare to be pounced upon. Talk to the host right, and you could be looking at a free suite for the rest of your stay, with the complimentary phone calls all day long to your room from said host asking when you are going to come down and play some more hehe. I did this only playing 3 one hundred dollar hands. Never played another hand the rest of the weekend but spent it in their $1,000 a night suite.

They rate you by average bet times how long you play. No one on this board probably has any better than a guess at how the ratings actually play out or what they can offer you. There is a basic formula that multiplies your play by the house edge and they calculate what you are ';worth'; to them, i.e., what you are leaving behind to the casino and give you a % of that in comps to keep it flowing, but who knows for sure.

Nowadays I bring $100K to the casino, and ususally play 100-1,000 a hand. That has been enough for me, and gets me what i need/want. But to be honest, i could care less. If I had to, and i have before i got rated, i brought the same amount and stayed at a crappy dump of a hotel down the street. My winnings at the tables are my reward. If they want me to sleep in a nice place at their hotel, so be it.

Plus, its hella fun to walk up to a table on the floor and ask for $50K in chips. Trust me, that perks their ears up.

Best of luck, bring home the money.

    RL

How bout a High Troller ?

    ReseroLibertas less of the %26#39;monkeys%26#39; u a**hole !

The book I referred discussed both %26#39;whales%26#39; and %26#39;high rollers%26#39; at length.

Perhaps you should write one, obviously being an expert - or maybe you%26#39;re already a mentioned in this one - LMFAO
