does anyone know of one

bob dylan impersonators

Lived here for 10 years and never heard of one. What a depressing thought.

Kids in Vegas

We are planning on going to Vegas in July for the first time and have reservations at Mandalay Bay can anyone tell me if it will be overun with kids? Are there any hotels with less kids?

Thanks!

Kids in Vegas

There will be kids there, what do you mean by ';overun';

I hear Wynn doesn%26#39;t like children. You might want to inquire there.

Kids in Vegas

MB wil be perfect for you. Kids and adults have their own sections of the pools. The adults are the Pee Free sections. Any place with a nice pool will be overun with rugrats in July. Too darn hot to be anywhere else in LV during July.

Stay anywhere except the Orleans!!!

Casual Steakhouses..

Will be in Vegas 6/24-6/26. We are veteran Vegas travelers, but are looking for a good quality steakhouse with a definate casual atmosphere. Everything we have reviewed sounds wonderful, but to upscale in the dress dept. for what we need. Will be in shorts attire these few days, and want to celebrate a birthday at a steakhouse. Will have a car, and price is not the issue. Can anyone recommend a place to suit our needs? I have looked up Bob Taylor%26#39;s Original Ranch House, would appreciate any reviews on this place if available. We are also trying to stay away from the ';franchise'; spots..ie...Outback, etc....where do the locals go for a ultra casual, good dinner? Thanks...Laura

Casual Steakhouses..

As long as u have your nose in the air, go to the expensive places and eat the same meat as ';';outback';'; at triple the price.

Casual Steakhouses..

I recomend Yukon Grill, the steakhouse at Ariz. Charlies on Boulder Hwy. Steaks on par with higher price places. Noone would question you dress.

Billy Bob%26#39;s at Sam%26#39;s Town. FWIW I do not know of any steakhouses that would not let you in wearing shorts as long as you have a wallet in one of the pockets. Best in town is CC Steakhouse IMO.

Great meal at a dirt cheap price, the Ellis Island Sirloin special $4.95 10 oz Sirloin, rolls, soup or salad, choice of potato and garlic green beans.

Hotel suggestions for August stay

I%26#39;m planning a trip to for August, I need suggestions for hotels in Vegas. Preferably on the strip, if not does anyone know which hotels offer free shuttles to the strip? Also, im on a budget, I prefer to spend between $50-90 per night ( 3 night stay). So far on my list Orleans, Excalibur, Boardwalk, Stardust - opinions anyone? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hotel suggestions for August stay

Of those the Orleans would be my recommendation. They have a free shuttle to the Strip. They have everal restaurants, bars, movie theater, bowling alley, lounge acts and headliner theater. You might try the Las Vegas forum. Lots of information there.

Flamingo or Treasure Island?

Can anyone tell me which one is more central on the strip and also the nicer of the 2? They are priced about the same, average of $175/nt for a long weekend in the fall.

Thanks!

Flamingo or Treasure Island?

If the prices are about the same, I would go w/Treasure Island. They aren%26#39;t too far away from each other, so location is about the same. I think that overall Treasure Island is nicer hotel.

I would suggest checking out the amenities etc. of the hotels and seeing which one better fits your needs. Not sure of your age, I know that TI is going for a younger crowd now.

I would have thought that the Flamingo would have been cheaper than TI. I hear that the Flamingo has a good pool...

It really depends on what you are looking for.

Flamingo or Treasure Island?

Treasure Island!!!

We are mid-30%26#39;s, want to be where there%26#39;s a party atmosphere! Nice pool is a big plus. TI sounds great then. Thanks.

Flamingo has a far superior pool complex, but TI is a bit more upscale and it%26#39;s trying to position itself for the hip 20s and 30s crowd. Take your pick. Both are in good central locations, now that Wynn has stretched the ';prime'; part of mid-strip a bit further north.

Flamingo is more central. They are both cheesy. Though not as good of a location... TI, in my opinion, is much nicer. Flamingois outdated, tired, and looks a bit skanky. As cheesy as TI is... a nicer hotel.

I think it depends on what you are looking for.

Flamingo is more centrally located and has a great pool area. If you are going in the summer and wish to spend time at a great pool, the Flamingo is a good bet with a reasonable price, however the rooms are outdated.

The TI has ';newer'; rooms and tries to attract a younger / ';hipper'; crowd.

TI has the nicer rooms of the two. Flamingo has the best setup as far as the pool, casino and location. The restaurants aren%26#39;t great at either place, except Margaritaville at the Flamingo which isn%26#39;t too expensive and fun. The monorail is pretty con- venient if you%26#39;re staying at the Flamingo. Have stayed at TI twice, the Flamingo 5 times, prefer the Flamingo except for the tired rooms.

Between the 2 casinos, work on them to get a better rate. both r good choices. keep checking the internet for specials.

sign up for their internet information., and mailings

I have to agree tht the Falmingo Lobby area looks old and out of style. The pool area is cool, but its very crowded. I would say the pool is the coolest thing about the place and so is its location.

I am going July 17th and will be staying at TI. The hotel was renovated a year ago and is in better shape from what I hear. Plus the reviews for the hotel seem consistantly good. It%26#39;s next to the Fashion Mall....not that I would go, but I%26#39;m entertaining distant relatives from Hong Kong and they will want to do some shopping at Ceasers Palace and the mall. The weather in July will be unbearably hot, so having some shopping nearby will give them something to do when they are not at shows and doing some gambling.

I don%26#39;t think you will go wrong with both choices, but after researching this for a while, it seems that TI is a better bet....

Quarter slots?

I know that most slots in Vegas have converted to a paper pay out system according to what I have read here. But, do they still take coins? If I have quarters, can I still place them into the machine or is it only bills now that can be used? I like to keep a stash of uncounted quarters as play money but if it is pointless to bring them if they can%26#39;t be used.

Quarter slots?

Depends on where you play. Some casinos have machines that still accept coins, but many machines no longer even have a coin slot. I know for a fact that Caesars is totally coinless. My husband had some coins from another casino and wanted to cash them in at Caesars and couldn%26#39;t, because they had no machines to count them.

Quarter slots?

On the strip, the Tropicana is the only place I saw that still used coins.

You can bring them along, if you can%26#39;t find any machines right away, take them to the cashier. They will give you paper money for them. Play off the paper money.

We were at the Main Street Station and apparently some of the nickel machines not only take coins, they dispense them! (Much to my friend%26#39;s dismay!)

VegasMan, the cashier at Caesars was not interested in cashing in my husband%26#39;s coins. She told him it was a ';coinless'; casino since...(and I forget the date.) Someone suggested we could cash them in at the airport on our way out, but, guess what, the airport is also coinless.

Many of the casino%26#39;s have machines that still take coins (we just returned from LV on Friday). We found it to be too much trouble to carry around quarters (or nickels) in hopes of finding a machine that took them.

As mentioned, some machines also pay out in coins. When you want to cash in your coins for paper money, all cashier cages/booths do NOT take coins. There were times we walked half way across the casino to cash in coins (didn%26#39;t want to bring my tub of nickel winnings back home with me!).

Also, many casinos now have machines that you can dump your coins (dollar tokens, quarters, nickels) in and the machine will convert it to paper money. These machines are great when they work. I won about $75 on dollar slots. I put the coins in the counting machine and it gave me $16 in paper money and didn%26#39;t say it rejected any coins. I freaked out. After tracking down an attendant, they pointed out that the machine had rejected the other coins and spit them out the bottom even though the machine didn%26#39;t say it rejected them.

This is probably more information than you wanted to know but we were just in LV last September and things had already changed so much by the time we returned this May.

Enjoy your trip!

Weather in July

Hi,

I am going to Vegas in early July. What is the temperature like? I heard it might even be too hot to stay out in the pool during the day, is that true?

Thanks!

Weather in July

Turn your oven on and wait a few minutes...Open the oven door and stick your head in it for a moment. That is what Vegas feels like in July. No kidding...Very hot and dry!! It is about 105F everyday in July.

Weather in July

I have been to Vegas in July several times. It is hotter than....well.... you know where. It hovers between 100 and 110, and even at night is very warm. Like walk around in shorts, a tank top, and flip flops, and still be breaking a sweat at 1 am. 2 out of the 3 July%26#39;s I stayed they also had a minor monsune so it was hot, and alternated between super sunny, and overcast with light rain. It is so hot that most of the rain evaporates before it hits the ground. IMO, it is too hot to be out by the pool in July, even sitting *in* the pool in July. Unless you can figure out a way to bring scuba gear so your head doesn%26#39;t have to be sticking out of the water. Even then the pool is too warm to help you feel really cool. I only do the pool after the sun goes down when I%26#39;m there in the middle of summer. Walking more than 1 hotel to the next during the day for me is too much this time of year. Last year I walked from Caesars to Sephora, which is basically across the street and up 2 blocks. I almost had a heat stroke getting there. We actually contemplated taking a cab back the two blocks, but decided we should tough it out. After that, we drove everywhere. And only walked any distance indoors. Now you will see lots and lots of people walking the streets in the middle of the day, and if you can take the heat, by all means, but I guess I%26#39;m a woos. I just can%26#39;t do it. I enjoy the indoor stuff much better. And you can walk just as much inside all the massive hotels and casinos. You don%26#39;t need to be outside to walk that dinner, cocktail, and extra dessert off.

I would think that dry heat might just be a welcome change for someone from the Pacific Northwest!

Seriously, it%26#39;s hot enough that you need to use good judgment and adjust your plans accordingly (i.e. don%26#39;t plan on walking the length of the strip in mid-afternoon), but it%26#39;s not too hot to enjoy the pool.

Use sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and seek out a shady place poolside at first until you get your bearings.

It reminds me of the story about the guy who died and went down to Hell. The devil met him at the gates to Hades and told him:DONT WORRY,its a dry heat!!we are going there on july 25th.,same as last year, when I nearly got sunstroke(forgot to wear my hat one day!)and my daughter got a bad sunburn at the Flamingo pool, but I must admit that the beer goes down a lot better at that time of year.So things even out.You will have a great time anyway.

you will sweat and actually see your skin twitch. just stay in the pool. I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and go every july

July is HOTTT. if you have a tan, stay out till 2 pm. if u are a lily white skin, 9---11, 4---6, the first day. judge your burn from there for a longer second day. YOU WILL BURN, if u r careless. use plenty of sun block .

Hot as H-E-double-hockey-sticks during the day as the sun is BLAZING! Once the sun goes down, not bad though. Not a humid climate. The sun is the Killer!!! Probably be 100-105 degrees.

well, today is 103..and it%26#39;s only May 22nd....

Its not warm at night....its still very hot...

If the temperature is at 110...its tough to walk further than the next hotel. I%26#39;m going in July, not because I want to but because its not in my control. I hope it will not be as hot as I think, but I%26#39;m sure the casino%26#39;s like it because everyone will be staying put in their hotel gambling or parting wiht their money in some manner... That being said, you will have a fun time no matter what. There is plenty to do and see....

Best wishes....

I drank 4 bottles of water from MGM to the Imperial at 10.30am, it was that hot last July but it still is fantastic. They sell iced bottles of water on the paths so getting water wasn%26#39;t a problem. You do have to keep up the water intake. It%26#39;s also heaps cheaper than buying it from the hotels.
