Peggy Sue's/Jenny Rose

Has anyone tried these cool looking little diners? I believe they are 2 or 3 hours outside of Vegas - on the I 15. I was too hungover on my last trip home to even fathom consuming food, but was wondering if they would be worth it for the next trip.

Looks like the epitome of a ';greasy spoon,'; no?

Peggy Sue's/Jenny Rose

Callie, I%26#39;ve never tried Peggy Sue%26#39;s, much as I love the name.

Driving to Vegas, I want to make it past the half-way point before I stop, and these are before the half-way point. So I push on to Baker (home of the Mad Greek and Bun Boy) before I stop to eat.

Driving from Vegas, even though these are beyond that all-important (in my mind only) half-way point, I%26#39;ve never stopped there; I just go into Barstow (Lenwood exit) for In %26#39;N Out, Panda Express or Rip Griffin Truck Stop%26#39;s Diner.

If someone has tried Peggy Sue%26#39;s, I too would like to hear how it is.

Peggy Sue's/Jenny Rose

1950s style food at 2005 prices. Hamburgers, malts and sundaes dominate the menu.

We stopped by there to have lunch two years ago (august) --- 2 moms and three almost teenaged girls.

Its definitely an authentic diner decor.....we sat at the bar area and we had all their soda fountain favorites.

Food wasn%26#39;t great though when we were there. I tried to have a side salad instead of fries and it was just watery ice berg lettuce and not one of the dressings was decent.

If you stop there, try a malt or a shake...

But the best shakes are at the MAD GREEK.

Thanks guys...my friends tried both the Mad Greek and Bun Boy on their way home and said they weren%26#39;t half bad. We were all traveling in 2 seperate cars, but at that point I was so eager to get home that I just wanted to keep driving! Maybe next time...

Travelwriter, I eat at the Mad Greek a lot (love their gyros!!), but somehow, I%26#39;ve never tried their shakes. Thanks for the recommendation!

hotel weddings

We are planning a wedding in August 05%26#39;. We want an outdoor wedding at one of the hotels...So far I have looked at Flamingo and Rio, both seem nice. If anyone has any feedback on these or any other hotels that offer outdoor wedding packages, please write!

hotel weddings

how many people are you having? i called around for me.. i want to renew our vows. the venetian does it.. they do them in the gondolas .. pretty cool. paris does them, .. stratosphere..etc.

there are tons of places...is it a big wedding you want to have?

hotel weddings

My sister-in-law got married at Mandalay Bay in Jan %26#39;04. It was beautifully done and much classier than the family expected from a ';Vegas wedding';. Of course, at that time of the year its not ';outdoor wedding weather.'; But the MB pool area is gorgeous (the wedding chapel is right near the pool) so you might want to look into that.

We were also at Caesars Palace last year for July 4th and saw a few outdoor weddings take place by the pool. CP and MB are the two nicest pools in Vegas IMHO.

We are planning to have about 50 guests. I called Mandalay Bay and they don%26#39;t do outdoor ceremonies:( The Flamingo and Rio look pretty comparable as far as price/packages-if anyone has specific experience with either one of these hotels please help! The simplest Caesar%26#39;s package is only offered Mon-Thurs. so CP is out, which is too bad b/c their locations look beautiful.

I%26#39;m getting married at the Flamingo on June 25th. We are getting married outside at the gazebo. Everyone I have talked to said it is a great place to get married. From everything I have seen it looks very nice. Good luck finding something!

Beachteach- I think we%26#39;ve decided on the Flamingo as well...also outside at the gazebo. Congratulations on your wedding and please tell me what you think when you return!

I have some pictures I%26#39;ve gotten from other people if you would like to see them. You can email me at beachteach81@yahoo.com

I am also thinking about the Flamingo, the one in front of the waterfall Package. We are visiting in July for vacation and are going to take a look at it. Rio was also my second choice because of the beach.

What I%26#39;m having a hard time deciding is the wedding reception. Because ours is going to be small, just 10 close family members it seems silly to rent a banquet hall and dj and everything. So we are trying to think of a place to go after the wedding, with great food and maybe live entertainement. Anyone have ideas on that?

We are also not sure what to do for a reception. We will have a larger group, probably between 50-75. We really can%26#39;t afford to throw a huge reception. Basically we would just like to be able to go somewhere and eat cake and make a toast...the Flamingo won%26#39;t rent out a banquet room unless you are going to buy food/drinks from them. If anyone has any ideas on this....please let me know!

I have heard very good things about the Flamingo weddings and the waterfall ceremony looks beautiful.

I am getting married in Vegas July 30th. It took me forever to find a place for a reception for 45 - 50 people that wasn%26#39;t way out of our price range. Finally found the Tuscany Suites. They have a banquet room and the F%26amp;B costs aren%26#39;t bad. The Sales mgr has been very helpful. None of our party is staying there and it wasn%26#39;t a problem. Not so for other places.

Thank you Txwoman, I will give them a call tomorrow to see what kind of deal I can get...I wonder if they will just let me rent the room for champagne/cake or just a cocktail hour. It looks like they have plenty of meeting space-how many in your party?

Fremont area Asian restaurant

Can anyone recommend a good Asian restaurant near Fremont?

Fremont area Asian restaurant

Lilly Langtree%26#39;s in Golden Nugget is very nice. California hotel also has some good Asian food.

Fremont area Asian restaurant

I second Lily Langtrees - food is good and service is excellent.

A Negative Thought Wynn, New Post

No, I wouldn%26#39;t have paid $30.00 to see the dealership, however I did see it because there was no charge. There was a short line to get in because they only allow so many people in at a time.

A Negative Thought Wynn, New Post

Chuck,

I think the point of your posting that Wynn is charging $25/day or suggesting to put the meds into a minibar fridge (with sensored materials at that, so if they move them they%26#39;ll probably get charged for those as I read another LONG review which stated that their minibar items are sensored) IS important to note for others who may be considering staying there.

There are MANY travelers who must travel with medications which require refrigeration, and this is an important thing (like Insulin for example) for people to be aware of up front. I mean, could you imagine a diabetic who injects numerous times checking out facing a ';minibar'; bill in the hundreds because of moved items?

I also think that it was important that even though you expressly advised them of the biohazardous nature and toxicity of the drugs they still were going to have you put the drugs into the minibar fridge. Hopefully someone from Wynn reads that thread and makes a point to make sure that the issue is brought up so that the reservations staff get proper training on the matter. The place IS still new and ironing out kinks and I%26#39;m sure that it isn%26#39;t a ';policy'; in place, more than just a simple oversight by an untrained staff member.

I would think that aside from the obvious convenience aspects, the hotels would offer the complimentary refrigerators to avoid the other obvious of any type of cross contamination with their minibar fridge due to any blood borne pathogens, etc, since the other fridge can be cleaned again after you leave much more easily. Or maybe I%26#39;ve just been in the Healthcare industry too long, lol.

I do hope that you enjoy your trip and that your health doesn%26#39;t bring you down too much on it. I know it was probably quite difficult both at the time and in retrospect to discuss your situation, but I don%26#39;t think the severity of what had transpired would have actually made sense without mentioning the type of chemical involved. I, for one, am very thankful you shared the information with us

:)

A Negative Thought Wynn, New Post

Chuck,

The only opinion you should be posting is the one you have after actually VISITING the property. Like you, I have NEVER been to Wynn so can offer nothing, either positive or negative.

When I do visit I will certainly make note of it in my trip report.

Best of luck to you.

WOW. What have I missed? All I gathered was hazardous drugs in the minibar.. I could be mistaken. But, that%26#39;s DEFINITELY NOT AN OPTION. ay yay yay. I%26#39;ll take time to sort through the threads, no worries.. no need to repeat anything =)

Dylann, click on chuckwag%26#39;s name and then read his posts and you%26#39;ll understand what he is talking about.

Favourite slot machines

As strange as it may seem, we never actually expect to win when we gamble and, as such, have a gambling budget which we suspect we%26#39;ll lose in the time we%26#39;re in Vegas.

We mainly play the video slot machines which are at least amusing whilst you lose your money. We%26#39;ve seen things like show me the mummy, addams family, the TV bloopers and Texas Tea. Nothing quite like hitting oil!

Which slot machines would you recommend not missing? We normally play the 25c slots but we%26#39;re ready and willing to upgrade.

Favourite slot machines

my partner loves playing Risque Business get onto the bonus round and choose between a male or female stripper pick 3 people to chuck money at the dancer as they do a strip get past the selected amount of money the more comes off in the next round you can play 5 cent or 25 cent on these slots

Favourite slot machines

I like Lobstermania when I play. This is a 15 coin machine. It is fun to watch the bonus round when the lobsters are plucked out.

I usually play the nickel and penny slots for these.

Wheel of Fortune slot machine is very popular over here. Progressive jackpot. Plenty of 25-cent machines available.

I like the Mrs. Little Green Men. I like when you get the bonus round and have to pick 3 flying saucers. I also like the music they play and the sound effects. I usually play the nickel slots.

I have a few favorites I like to play- in the 25c variety I like the Wheel of Fortune, Top Dollar, and various Lucky7%26#39;s. I also like the 50c and occasionally $1 version of Top Dollar and Wheel of Fortune.

I enjoy alot of the nickel slots- usually playing the 9 or 15 lines at 2-4 credits per line unless I am ';up';. Then I may play more- I like the Alfred Hitchcock, Price is Right, Winning Bid, Texas tea, Marriachi,Ms. Little Green Men, Money Storm,Alien, and Hexbreaker. They are all a bit more entertaining then just having 3 bars. The videos and bonus rounds add a little ';fun'; something to the process of losing my money (LOL) jan

Our problem over here is that the normal slot machines with spinning wheels and nudges are very much the norm. We were so impressed with all the video clips and bonus rounds.

I quite like the idea of a monopoly slot machine. I can%26#39;t remember seeing one last time but I%26#39;ll definitely be looking out for it this time round.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Billy

There is a relatively new (to me, anyway) system that entices me. It is a bank of hyper-linked penny machines that have a variety of themes. There are 3 or 4 bonus levels that pay randomly to any machine that is being played. The amount you win depends on the score you earn when playing this bonus round. The great thing is you can play only a penny a line (though all lines must be played) and still win over $1,000 if you hit the top bonus in the bonus round. The themed slots still play as any of their sort on the casino floor, in that they have their usual payouts and bonus rounds (other than the hyper-linked one). I%26#39;ve seen these under the name of ';Fort Knox'; and ';Party Train'; (I think). Lots of fun and stretches that gambling budget.

Hi LVescape,

Sounds grand. Where were these?

I know I saw them at Circus Circus, but I%26#39;m sure many others must have them. Harrah%26#39;s in New Orleans has them, so their Las Vegas property probably does, also. There are large signs above the bank of machines that has a train engine or bars of gold, etc. on them. They make a bit of noise, too, which my draw your attention (since nothing else in Vegas makes noise, hehehe). Hope you have a great trip and report back to us about all the money you won.

Drive to LV from San Diego

My fiance and some friends and I are driving to LV from San Diego in about a week (!). Anyone know how long this generally takes, if there are roads to avoid, and if leaving at around 5 pm from SD is a HUGE mistake because of traffic? I guess we don%26#39;t really have a choice, but I%26#39;d like to know if I should bring along a pillow (since I won%26#39;t be driving).

Drive to LV from San Diego

It looks like it%26#39;s I-15 most of the way, so, if I remember my California days, you%26#39;re stuck in traffic!!!

It%26#39;s about 350 miles, or 5 hours. Check mapquest.com.

Good travels...

Drive to LV from San Diego

If you are leaving on a Friday night at 5pm, you are looking at a LONG drive....bring a pillow.

Luckily it%26#39;s a Tuesday night, not a Friday. It%26#39;ll be neat getting to LV when it%26#39;s dark out though...I%26#39;ve never been before and am VERY excited to see the lights!

On a Tuesday night once you get past San Bernardino it will be pretty smooth sailing, I mean driving. Friday night I%26#39;m going from LV to Oceanside, I expect it to take me 5 hours or so.

5pm is a big mistake, wait until at least 7, whether you go I5 or I15 they are terrible at rush hour. There is no rush, vegas will be rocking whenver you get there so avoid the rush hour traffic and leave later

We are driving from San Diego to Las Vegas next Friday (27th). As it%26#39;s a holiday weekend and a Friday we are thinking of leaving San Diego between 9 %26amp; 10am. Would this be the best idea?

You will be against traffic so 9am will be the best bet, don%26#39;t push it much after 10am, you will want to be clear of the la basin (rancho cucamonga area) by 12 noon at the latest.

Longboard:

You said : ';5pm is a big mistake, wait until at least 7, whether you go I5 or I15 they are terrible at rush hour. There is no rush, vegas will be rocking whenver you get there so avoid the rush hour traffic and leave later';

If we do leave at 7, how long to you expect the drive to take? How late can we check into our hotel (Mirage), or does it not matter (as long as we notify the hotel, or do we even have to do that at all)? I don%26#39;t want to get there TOO late.

Pierce,

As long as your first night is already paid for on your credit card, they have to keep a room for you. Call them if it makes you feel better.

I normally like to take the 215 through Riverside as opposed to the 15 through the Lake Elsinore area. They are doing construction on the 215 right now. So, AVOID it at all costs. It took us an extra half hour Friday night with the detours and bad roads. And there was no trqaffic at the time. Stay on the 15 all the way to Vegas and avoid the temptation to spand your money at the Native American casinos on your way over.

Is October pool weather?

Hi, thinking of going 3rd or 4th week of October. How warm is it still in Vegas? SHould we pack swimsuits for the swimming pool and sun bathing? We live in Florida and used to warmer climates so 70%26#39;s is too cold for me.

Not sure where we are staying yet. I want to be somewhere central close to the Bellagio and Caesar%26#39;s but less expensive, under $200/nt on the weekend. This is another question, but any suggestions?

Is October pool weather?

I am from Boston, and late october is even too cool for me to hit the pool in vegas. Weather will be great--dry and mild, but probably not pool weather if you are used to South Florida.

Regarding hotel choice, Paris will probably have rooms sub 200 per night. Mirage would too. Look on hotels.com

Is October pool weather?

I was in Vegas the third week of October last year and it wasn%26#39;t really hot enough to enjoy the pool, although I was told that the weather then was unusually cool. It%26#39;s iffy that late in the season.

Try Ballys or Paris, across street from Bellagio. Looks like their prices are in your ballpark right now.

...I would check each hotel%26#39;s website for the best deal, and best cancellation policy.

I%26#39;ll be there from the 25th to the 29th (getting married at Treasure Island on 26th) and I%26#39;m packing a swimsuit incase I need to ';wake up'; i%26#39;ll just dive in. hehe

I think it is a ';hit or miss'; time of year. We were there in Sept and the weather was about 100- we went back in the second week of Nov and although the weather was cool there were still people in the pool at the Monte Carlo and others sunning themselves. i believe the main pool at MC is heated, but if you are used to Fla heat then you might not be too comfortable. my friend goes in Oct (earlier) and has been able to use the pool.

I think you will be able to find rroms in that range if you search different sites and the hotels directly. Good luck! jan

Thanks for the advice! I guess swimming and sunning is not our #1 priority. I%26#39;d like to go in a cooler month as I know the heat is brutal. If we have a few warm days, then that%26#39;s great too as we can use the pool. thanks.

Just a quick note- I just checked online rates at MC and the last Sat in Oct showed a rate of $189- it is in a nice location- connected to Bellagio by tram-- just a suggestion-- also remember that even after you book a room, keep checking back because if the rate goes lower you will get the lower rate guarantee.
